Most Popular Sports Cars Around the World
Sports cars are popular all over the world – and why wouldn’t they be? They are beautiful, fast, and always impressive. However, have you stopped to wonder which sports cars are the most popular in different countries?
At YSM Motors, we have analysed 124 countries around the world along with their most popular sports cars. When conducting this piece of research, we took the most affordable and the most expensive cars into consideration to get reliable data.
While we hoped to gather data on every country around the globe, this was not possible. As such, the countries that we could not gather data for have been removed from the list. Even with these countries removed, there is plenty of data to check out and go over, so let’s do that!
How We Got Our Results
To determine which vehicles were the most popular sports cars globally, we analysed Google Search data and attributed a score to each car, showing its popularity in each country. We then analysed the top 20 most popular/searched for sports cars in the World to come up with a final list.
Most Popular Sports Cars Around the World
Below is a list of the 20 most popular sports cars around the world. As you can see, it’s a mixed bag, with the incredible Lamborghini Aventador coming in at the number one spot.
Here is a list of the 20 most well-loved sports cars around the globe:
1. Lamborghini Aventador 2. BMW M3 3. Bugatti Veyron 4. Toyota Supra 5. BMW M5 6. KIA Stinger 7. Bugatti Chiron 8. Porsche 911 9. Mazda MX-5 10. Tesla Roadster | 11. Porsche Panamera 12. BMW i8 13. McLaren 720S 14. Dodge Challenger 15. Alpine a110 16. Audi S3 17. Ford Mustang 18. Audi TT 19. Audi R8 20. Ferrari Roma |
To break down these finds, it’s important to take note of the brand that got the most votes – Audi and BMW! Overall, the Lamborghini Aventador got the top spot with a score of 22, while the BMW M3 got 19. The Bugatti Veyron got a score of 14, the Toyota Supra 13, and the BMW M5 7.
Overall, it is fair to say that BMWs and Audis have remained popular, and are likely to remain popular. However, there are other up-and-coming sports cars that are becoming increasingly popular, such as the Tesla Roadster. It is entirely likely that we will be seeing more of these sports cars in the upcoming years.
Even some sports cars like the Ferrari Roma may only feature once, but this is Italy’s favourite, so they must be onto something, right?
Countries and Sports Cars to Take Note of
It’s interesting to note the variety when it comes to the favourite sports cars around the world. Very few countries had the Alpine A110 in the top spot – only France and Luxembourg! The only country to have the Audi R8 as the favourite was South Africa.
In fact many countries within Africa seem to favour both the Bugatti Veyron (including Algeria, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ghana, and more) and the BMW M3 (including Djibouti, Eritrea, and Chad). Within the Latin American countries, the most popular sports cars are options like the Toyota Supra and the Lamborghini Aventador.
In Scandinavian countries (specifically Sweden, Denmark, and Norway), the favourite sports car is the Tesla Roadster. Throughout the rest of Europe, there are a variety of favourites. However, the sports cars that take the top spots include the Bugatti Veyron (Czechia, Georgia, Slovakia, and more), Lamborghini Aventador (United Kingdom, Switzerland, Spain, Croatia, and more), and the Porsche 911 (Slovenia, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, and more).
The most popular sports cars in Asia seem to be the BMW M5 (Kyrgyzstan, China, Azerbaijan), Bugatti Chiron (Cambodia, Pakistan, Uzbekistan), and the Lamborghini Aventador (Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Israel, and more).
Here are some of the most prominent countries around the world and their favourite sports cars based on our data:
France – Alpine a110 South Africa – Audi R8 China – BMW M5 United Arab Emirates – Bugatti Chiron India – Bugatti Veyron Italy – Ferrari Roma Australia – KIA Stinger Russia – KIA Stinger Brazil – Lamborghini Aventador Spain – Lamborghini Aventador Switzerland – Lamborghini Aventador | United Kingdom – Lamborghini Aventador Japan – Mazda MX-5 New Zealand – Mazda MX-5 United States – Mazda MX-5 Qatar – McLaren 720s Canada – Porsche 911 Germany – Porsche 911 Hong Kong – Tesla Roadster Saudi Arabia – Toyota Supra |
What’s interesting to note are the cars that do not feature in some areas. For example, BMW’s do not feature as any of the Latin American country’s favourite sports cars except Bolivia! There are also some sports cars that only feature as favourites in one or two countries.
In Italy, for example, the favourite sports car is the Ferrari Roma – and this car does not feature anywhere else. The favourite sports car in Mexico is the Chevrolet Camaro, which also features nowhere else on the map. The Ford Mustang is Colombia’s top sports car, and this vehicle also isn’t any other country’s top option.
Other sports cars like the Dodge Challenger only feature twice in Singapore and Cuba’s top list. Three different Audi models are mentioned – the R8 S3, and TT. The TT is a favourite in the Isle of Man, while the S3 is loved in Rwanda and Latvia.
Summary
Sports cars are here to stay, and it is clear that there are universal fan-favourites. The Lamborghini Aventador has remained the king of sports cars, and likely will for some time. Not far behind, however, is the BMW M3, then the Bugatti Veyron. Both of these cars are incredibly popular (why wouldn’t they be?), and could claw their way up the ranks with more data.
With sports cars like the Tesla Roadster being so popular in countries like Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Hong Kong, you might be left thinking if you should make the switch! After all, these countries are some of the richest in the world, so why not?
Nonetheless, you can’t forget about the popularity of sports cars like the Toyota Supra and KIA Stinger, which are still hugely popular in many parts of the world.
