2022 Chevy Tahoe Interior Review
The Tahoe is a spacious people-carrier with seating for up to nine occupants, depending on how you configure it and which trim level you choose from. There are six variants in the 2022 lineup, and all of these are loaded with features, although the base spec is a little barebones.
The new Chevy Tahoe interior dimensions are more impressive than any previous generation, prioritizing space and comfort. Comparing to older models shows how far the Tahoe has come: whereas the 2007 Chevy Tahoe interior was nothing more than functional, the latest models offer a genuinely pleasant, relaxed atmosphere.
The New Chevy Tahoe Interior – Detailed Review
With a complete redesign last year, only a few updates were made for the 2022 model year. These are relatively important as they significantly impact the Chevy Tahoe interior. Changes include a more prominent instrument cluster on more expensive models.
Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play are also available on the infotainment system. The Tahoe ships with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across the range with new levels of customization for users. All of this combines to make the Chevy Tahoe interior more advanced and versatile than ever.
We’ve mentioned the redesign from last year because it’s had a significant impact on the Chevy Tahoe interior for this year’s model. The Tahoe is bigger in this generation, having grown substantially to make more room for cargo and provide a roomy third row of seats.
The standard seating configuration is for eight, with the base model allowing you to specify a front-row bench for a total of nine occupants if you need the extra perch. However, this isn’t our version of the most comfortable Chevy Tahoe interior, so unless you need the additional seating, we’d skip over it.
The other trims offer a large center console between the driver and front passenger and then give you the option of two benches in the second and third-row or two captain’s chairs in the second row, meaning you have seven seats in total.
Three-row SUVs tend to suffer from third-row restrictions, but here the Chevy Tahoe interior proves to be superior. There is now ten inches more room in the third row over the 2020 Chevy Tahoe interior.
With a total of 34.9 inches of legroom in the third row, the Chevy Tahoe offers back seats that are usable for adults over longer journeys, where some rivals are much more cramped and reserve the rear-most bench for children only.
Speaking of which, having your children strapped into their car seats isn’t a problem in the Tahoe either. The second-row seats all have LATCH connectors, and the third row provides tether anchors.
Another advantage of its mammoth size is the class-leading Chevy Tahoe interior trunk space. There is 25.5 cubic feet of storage space behind the third row, which grows to 72.6 cubic feet if you fold the back row down. For the maximum in cargo volume, fold down the second row, and you’ll have an incredible 123 cubic feet to work with.
Chevrolet hasn’t just provided a spacious trunk area – the manufacturer has actively tried to make it convenient to use too. Optional power-folding third-row seats are available from the LT trim, making access to the cargo hold a breeze.
You also get a hands-free power liftgate from the LT trim, and due to the independent rear suspension setup, the load bed is lower and flatter than before.
While space for large cargo is ample, storage for your bits and bobs isn’t quite as generous in the cabin. You get two cupholders up front and an average-size bin in the center console, which may have wireless charging depending on the trim. On the plus side, the door pockets are deep.
The materials and upholstery used throughout the cabin are a mixed bag. While the cabin layout and design are primarily user-friendly and spacious, there are a lot of hard plastic touchpoints and faux wood trim on the base models.
Buying higher up in the range mitigates this, with leather and more soft-touch materials on top-end trims, but it’s still not enough to warrant using the word ‘luxury.’ Entry-level models have cloth seating surfaces, and the LT adds leather for a slight jump in price. Chevrolet has been generous and added heated front seats and memory settings for the driver.
The driver has ample power adjustment, and the front passenger also gets eight-way power settings. The steering wheel is leather-wrapped, and while the seats themselves are not overly supportive, they are wide and spacious. We’d appreciate a little more bolstering.
Higher up in the range, there is front-seat ventilation and second-row heating, and if you opt for the captain’s chairs, it starts to feel pretty plush. We’d still not compare this to the likes of an Escalade.
Regarding sound and onboard technology, welcome additions for the new model year make the Chevy a convenient place to be. These include integrated Google services – but only from the LT trim.
The basics include a 10.2-inch touchscreen that runs Chevrolet’s Infotainment 3 Plus software, which is quite sharp and responsive to use. The menus are logical and straightforward to navigate. You also get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, HD radio, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and six speakers as standard.
On the options list, you can upgrade to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless device charging, native navigation, a premium nine-speaker Bose sound system – or a ten-speaker version. The latter is standard on the Premier trim.
Further tech includes a universal garage door opener, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a rear-seat entertainment system to keep your back-seat passengers occupied on long trips. The top-end High Country model also gets a 15-inch head-up display.
The Chevy Tahoe interior is further embellished with comforts that make it a pleasant place to while away the miles. Standard features include tri-zone climate control, two household power outlets, and keyless entry. While the climate control system is excellent, some controls are a little iffy.
It’s easy to access the Tahoe and fuss-free to get comfortable in, with wide doors and a third row that is genuinely usable. The steering wheel and driver’s seat adjustments also make it easy for anyone to find an optimal driving position, from the shorter pilots to the tallest.
There is much to applaud regarding the Chevy Tahoe interior, mainly since the recent redesign and this year’s updates have addressed many of the concerns older models faced. There is more than enough space for the larger family, and the Tahoe can hold a massive load of cargo too.
Another plus point worth mentioning is that the cabin is generally quiet and serene, and although the ride isn’t pillowy, it’s acceptable for the price bracket. At the top-end of the range, the Tahoe gets a little expensive, but it’s worth opting for if the low-rent materials will be exceptionally irritating to you.
The automaker has done a lot to make the Tahoe feel comfortable. Sadly, it’s not entirely on the level of actual luxury SUVs, so while the interior of the Chevy Tahoe is comfortable, spacious, and relatively aesthetically pleasing, it does leave you wanting in the lower trims.
Our most significant criticism remains that some of the materials used are not as high quality as we’d like, and the seats aren’t conducive to extended journeys that require proper support and bolstering. Still, it’s massive inside, meaning passengers can stretch out more than in many rivals.
If you’re looking for a luxurious SUV with a plush interior, this may not be the one for you. A mid-range Tahoe is ideal if you’re after value for money and loads of space.
